The Harsh Truth Of Creative Entrepreneurship | 86
Jul 06, 2023The Illusion of Success
This week, I want to dive deep into the world of creative entrepreneurship.
What you see on social media doesn’t always mirror the reality.
Behind the glossy images of success, there are unseen struggles, unseen failures, and countless setbacks.
When I first embarked on this journey, I had something called "Naive Optimism".
I saw all the freedoms other entrepreneurs seemed to have and I wanted that. I've done hard things before. I could do this too.
A few months into the journey, my optimism was fading.
My business wasn't making any money, and I was questioning my abilities. I realized everything I see on social media was just a highlight reel. People weren't sharing their full story.
Turning Failures into Stepping Stones
Instead of letting my struggles discourage me, I shifted my mindset.
I stopped comparing my journey to others. Instead, I used their success stories as inspiration. I recognized every small progress I made, knowing that overnight success wasn't real.
Failure and setbacks are inevitable in this journey, but they are not final.
They are stepping stones to success. Through each failure, I was learning, growing, and refining my approach. I started building resilience, my ability to bounce back from failures and keep moving forward.
The Cycle of Entrepreneurship and Building a Growth Mindset
Entrepreneurship is like a cycle of trial and error. You try, you stumble, you learn, and you try again with newfound wisdom. This is the beauty of the journey.
Each time you try again, you come out stronger and more knowledgeable. This is the foundation of a growth mindset. A mindset that views challenges as opportunities for growth.
Luckily you don't have to go through all this trial and error alone. The students inside my program Creative Biz Launch just need to follow the blueprint I've laid out. It's designed to help you avoid the mistakes that set you back and speed up your path to success.
Discipline, Resilience, and Persistence
We all experience emotional ups and downs. It's crucial to learn to focus on our commitments over fleeting emotions.
The discipline to show up every day and do what's necessary is a pillar of becoming a successful entrepreneur.
Building resilience is not only about overcoming failures, it's also about sticking to commitments no matter how you feel. I remember days when I didn't feel like working, but I stuck to my commitments. Because success isn't just about feeling good, it's about doing what needs to be done, consistently.
Redefining Success
Lastly, it's crucial to define what success means to you. It's not just about money or fame. It's about personal fulfillment. For me, it's the freedom to live life on my terms. And it's okay if your definition evolves over time. The key is to align your goals with your personal vision and values.
So there you have it.
It’s tough, yes.
But if you have the courage to face failures, the discipline to stick to commitments, and the wisdom to find supportive communities, you'll discover that success can be more meaningful and rewarding than you ever imagined.
