How To Market Your Photography In 2023 | #55
Apr 20, 2023What comes to mind when I say photography marketing?
I bet you’re picturing a big portfolio within a single niche. That’s good. That’s the basics of photography marketing. But it can go so much farther than that.
Yes, it’s very important to have plenty of photos within your niche (and only in your niche) in your client-facing portfolio. But today we’re talking about a new kind of marketing.
We’re going to be focusing on the results you’ve gotten from your past clients.
Often, clients are looking for the results you can deliver, not the mechanism you do it through.
If you’ve worked with any clients in the past, you need to get case studies and testimonials from them.
A case study lays out the problem a client was facing. It walks through the process of solving that problem. And it talks about the final result.
A simple case study in the product photography space can go something like this:
Problem: John’s Cold Brew wasn’t selling as many cans online as they’d hoped to.
Solution: We worked together with John to create a new set of product photos that would resonate with the target customer.
Results: John’s Cold Brew saw an increase of 10% in sales in 30 days after implementing our solution.
This is a very simple example, but you get the point. We clearly define the problem, the solution, and use numbers to back up the results. If you can get numbers from a client, that will be huge.
Another way to market your photography business is to use google reviews and customer testimonials. It’s free to set up your google business page. I recommend everyone do that.
This will be a great way for clients to express appreciation for your services publicly. Everyone can see these. And since you provide an excellent service, these will be overwhelmingly positive.
Social proof is extremely important in any business, especially a service-based business like photography. If prospects see others loving your service, they are more likely to work with you.
Once you have case studies and testimonials, you should post these on your website and your social media pages. Anywhere you are currently marketing, really.
A simple carousel post on Instagram with the Problem, Solution, and Results will be perfect.
Screenshots of reviews overlayed on top of an image you created for the client are another great post.
Results-oriented marketing is a powerful tool you can begin to implement today.
At the end of every client project, send them an email saying how great it was working together, and ask them for a review/case study. From my experience, clients love to write these.
Get out there and start collecting these.
